Using Computer Vision and A.I. to Enhance Coaching in Baseball
Computer Vision is a new type of AI that can visually track things through a camera and collect data which can then be used for further analysis. Right now Computer Vision has been used for a variety of things such as surveillance in China, to shopping (Amazon Go). This article will focus on applications of computer vision in sports and fitness.
As a current college baseball player, I have become fascinated with the technology (or lack thereof) used in the sport. There are some companies doing very cool research in the space such as Driveline or producing commercial products like Hittrax, but the price point for many of these services and coaching can cost almost half of your college tuition — a luxury many can just not afford. On the other hand, there is the old school of thought with Baseball — the coaches who are reluctant to use these cutting edge technologies or are simply just too lazy to implement them. Finally there are the coaches who really do not know what they are talking about (we’ve all been there). With all of these inefficiencies, why not create something that can do the job of a coach and provide insights that the coach may have not been able to point out?
This is where Computer Vision kicks in. With our high quality cameras on our smart phone, we can use video to analyze data in real time and provide immediate feedback.
How Facebook Can Increase Engagement in Marketplace
Facebook’s ability to connect individuals to content creators is unmatched. Facebook is a primary source for brands to drive sales, evidenced by their $13.2 Billion Q2 reported revenue in advertising alone. Facebook has around 1.37 billion daily active users whereas Marketplace has only 18.3 million users a day.
This means that increasing Marketplace’s utilization rate could spell big returns for Facebook. By leveraging its social network identity and current user base, Facebook has the ability to transform Marketplace into the most seamless and authentic customer experience in e-commerce. All it takes is a shift in focus.
In this article, I will first elaborate on how I would improve the current Facebook Marketplace feature, and then spend the majority of the article discussing a suggested new feature called Shop Brands
